What Is GAF Timberline NS?
GAF is the most trusted brand in roofing, and its shingles are used on more North American homes than any other. In fact, Timberline is its most popular product line, and GAF Timberline NS is one of the distinct collections within that series. NS stands for Natural Shadow, which refers to the design approach of creating shadows in order to add contrast and complexity to the aesthetic. Timberline NS is an architectural shingle but one that is practically priced. It has the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. A 10-year algae warranty is included along with a 15-year wind warranty, and that coverage extends up to 110-mph winds with normal installation and 130-mph winds with special installation. Those protections are in addition to the limited lifetime warranty GAF includes with all of its shingles.
Is It Time for a New Roof?
GAF Timberline NS is a fantastic choice when it comes time for a roof replacement, but how do you know when that time is? Our first advice is to base that decision on the expected lifespan of your current roof. If you have shingles expected to last 25 years, go ahead and replace them as you near that mark rather than waiting and running the risk that they fail. You should also watch for signs that your roof is wearing out faster than expected. Those signs include a sudden spike in your heating and cooling costs. Watch for shingles that are missing, torn, curled up at the edges, or losing their granules. Look at the flashing for signs of damage and corrosion. Perform spot checks in your attic. Make sure that your gutter system is functioning well, and watch for a sagging roofline, which is often best seen from across the street.
