What Is GAF Slateline?
GAF Slateline is an architectural shingle, which is a type of asphalt shingle also known as a dimensional or laminated shingle. These shingles are thicker and have multiple layers, which allows for greater durability and longevity but which also allows for more design options. As the name suggests, Slateline is designed to mimic natural slate. It features a time-release algae-fighting technology and comes standard with the 25-year StainGuard Plus warranty. You also get 15-year limited wind warranty coverage up to 110 mph standard or up to 130 mph with special installation, and this is a GAF Lifetime Shingle. That means that if you have it installed by a GAF factory-certified contractor along with at least three qualifying GAF accessories, you get 10 years of non-prorated coverage. You also have the option of upgrading that protection to either the System Plus or Golden Pledge warranty.
Is It Time for a New Roof?
Age is the top consideration when it comes to replacing your roof. All roofing products have an expected lifespan, and in order to maximize your investment, you should replace the material as it nears that mark as opposed to waiting for it to fail. We also recommend scheduling annual inspections and having any necessary maintenance performed right away. You should also keep an eye on your roof yourself. Go up into your attic once in a while and look for signs of moisture or light peeking through. Outside the home, watch for shingles that are missing, loosed, torn, curled up, or balding and flashing that is rusted or otherwise damaged. Watch for a sagging roofline and any growth, including algae and funguses, and a sudden spike in your heating or cooling costs could be due to a roof no longer performing well.
